Preservica a Cool Vendor in Gartner’s “Cool Vendors in Content Management 2015” report
Washington, US and Oxford, UK | May 27 2015 | Preservica a world leader in digital preservation technology, is delighted to have been named a “Cool Vendor” by leading technology analyst Gartner in their latest “Cool Vendors in Content Management, 2015” report. Preservica believes the inclusion highlights the growing need for government and commercial organizations to incorporate Digital Preservation into their Information Governance lifecycle to ensure vital long-term electronic records and emails are readable and useable when required.
According to the report long-term preservation of digital assets is a challenge: “As formats change, software is retired and hardware becomes obsolete, the data that organizations might want to keep can be lost forever.”
“Most of what we do today is digital-only, and although the vast bulk of digital information should have short-to medium-term retention requirements, there is a significant amount that should be preserved for the longer term with retention times greater than 10 years. Government documents are one example, but companies also have information that needs to be preserved in order to ensure records will be readable and usable when required. Manufacturing, infrastructure, pharmaceutical companies and even financial services organizations all have data that falls into this category”.
Jon Tilbury, CEO Preservica adds: “We are proud to be named a “Cool Vendor” in Gartner’s latest “Cool Vendors in Content Management 2015” report. The need for Digital Preservation, which has long been recognized by memory and cultural institutions, is now crossing over into mainstream business and government records, in particular the preservation of vital long-term non-permanent electronic records. We believe the recognition also underscores what many of our government and commercial customers have been sharing with us for some time, as well as our decision to add connectors to Preservica to automate the ingest of common ECM/RM and email systems such as Microsoft SharePoint and Outlook”.
Preservica has launched a new Essential Guide: “Safeguarding Your Vital Electronic Records” that outlines the risks to long-term electronic records and emails and how forward-thinking organizations are already taking steps to protect themselves by integrating standards-based Digital Preservation with their existing ECM/RM and Archival Storage systems.
