According to a recent study by AIIM, over 90% of organizations are using MO365. Many of these adopters have begun to embrace MO365 in a traditional content management role – which requires massive content migrations into MO365. These massive migrations of digital content from legacy servers and systems into MO365, in addition to active content management, could mean that long-term operational, legal, and historical records become lost, abandoned, and unreadable.

As MO365 increasingly takes on the role and function of enterprise content management systems, opportunities to leverage policy and control capabilities to deliver improved records preservation outcomes are emerging.

This session will describe trends in MO365 adoption and deployment to set the stage for the exploration of ways in which digital preservation technology and good practices can be seamlessly integrated. Automating long-term records retention can potentially ease the burden on users, deliver access and integrity protections across the lifecycle, and future-proof digital objects before they fall prey to neglect, bit rot or obsolescence.

Case studies from public and private organizations will be shared to illustrate how operational efficiencies can help make the business case for automated protection and transfers within O365 content stores. Benefits to records owners, custodians, and users will be explored.
