Digital Government Records Backlog Research Highlights

The Council of State Archivists (CoSA), Preservica, and NASCIO are engaged in a joint research project focused on risks from file format and technology obsolescence to the growing backlog of permanent electronic state government records held by agencies and stored in digital content management systems. This includes records of historical value slated for transfer to state archives and libraries, as well as long-term administrative and operational records needed to meet on-going agency missions and mandates.
The aim of the study is to increase collaboration and implement coordinated approaches to state government records protection, preservation and secure access. This session features an overview of the initiative and highlights of the findings.
