Digital cloud system to protect and store Rauner materials
Caitlin Birch, Digital Collections and Oral History Archivist at Dartmouth College Library, speaks to The Dartmouth about their decision to select Preservica to protect and store digital materials being held at the Rauner Special Collections Library.
Caitlin Birch, Digital Collections and Oral History Archivist at Dartmouth College Library, speaks to The Dartmouth, America's Oldest College Newspaper, about their decision to select Preservica for their digital preservation requirements.
Specifically, digital materials from the Rauner Special Collections Library will now have a permanent home in the cloud, accessible to the broader student and researcher community.
Also key to their decision was the active file migration offered by Preservica, which helped enable Dartmouth College Library to manage file obsolescence - a particularly pertinent issue when dealing with early digital formats.
“When you think about the kinds of things that archives tend to have, its old letters, diaries, journals — maybe drafts of things that people were working on during their lifetime,” Birch said. “All of that is no longer created on paper. It’s created on computers.”
