Sylvain Bélanger, Director of Digital Operations and Preservation at the Library and Archives Canada (LAC), discusses how technology and partners, such as Perservica and Teramach, are helping them meet their mandates to preserve the history of Canada.
Sylvain shares how his team is working to preserve all the digital records from government institutions as well as documents from private donors and legal deposits that contain millions of publications from across Canada. This diverse set of digital holdings requires a technology plan that can handle both the scope and scale of their collection.
"My hope would be that [future generations] don't remember the digital transformation. It's actually part of the foundation of the basic work that we do. When they look at the mandate of the work of LAC, they see that we are able to meet our mandate for both digital and analog content."
