2022 Emmett Leahy Award winner, Joan Boadas i Raset

Preservica is proud to extend its support for the Emmett Leahy Award and congratulates 2022 winner, Joan Boadas i Raset, Municipal Archivist at Girona City Council, Spain and Director of its Research and Image Diffusion Centre (CRDI).

The prestigious global award recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals for their impact in the field of records and information management.

At a recent award ceremony held at the ICA Annual Conference in Rome, Italy, Senor Joan Boadas i Raset was honored for his sustained service to Girona City Council through the development of innovative recordkeeping systems that have integrated records management into digital business processes. These have had a demonstrable impact on the citizens of Girona and beyond to wider society regionally, nationally and internationally.

The Emmett Leahy Committee also recognized the significance of his work on image management, through the Centre for Image, Research and Dissemination (CRDI https://www.girona.cat/sgdap/cat/servei_arxiu_crdi.php) and the Permanent Observatory of Local Archives and Television (OPATL https://observatori.laxarxa.cat/), and his current work on the use of different technologies as part of Europeana’s WEAVE project (https://weave-culture.eu/).

Recent past winners have included pre-eminent thought-leaders, educators and practitioners including Laura Millar (2021), Richard Marciano (2017), and digital preservation pioneer and author Adrian Brown (2016), to name just a few. Professor Julie McLeod, a previous winner in 2014 and current Chair of the Emmett Leahy Award Committee, said, “On behalf of the Emmett Leahy Committee, I am delighted that we have honored Joan Boadas i Raset with this award. Not only has he served his own organization but also the records and information management profession, particularly through his roles in the ICA (International Council on Archives) and Europeana (https://www.europeana.eu/en).
