Preservica, is pleased to announce that it’s market-leading active digital preservation software has been selected by the West-Brabants Archief (WBA) to deliver sustainable preservation and access to digital government records through the creation of a new “e-depot” for the region.
The West-Brabants Archief stores and manages the archives for nine municipalities in the southwest of the Netherlands, serving a population of around 350,000. Guided by the Public Records Act of 1995 and other local regulations the archive plays a pivotal role in the development of open government by safeguarding and improving access to important records from the present, the past and into the future. The e-depot will consist of a wide array of different types of collections and materials including text, image, film, photo, music, drawings and videos.

With increasing amounts of born-digital information, the Archive saw the need to invest in the development of the new ‘e-depot’ to ensure important public information could be preserved and made available in a sustainable way for future generations. With almost all newly created archive materials now being purely digital, they required a modern preservation and access environment.
After a competitive public tender, West-Brabants Archief selected Preservica’s cloud-hosted active digital preservation software. A multidisciplinary team from the Archive has now been set up to configure the Preservica platform for West-Brabants specific needs, allowing both civil servants and citizens to access information in a user-friendly way.
"Thanks to this collaboration with Preservica, life will become a lot easier for our nine participating municipalities in terms of uploading digital documents to the archive in a large number of different file formats”, said Wim Reijnders, the Archive’s CEO. “We will soon be able to provide online access for both civil servants and citizens, and we’re confident that through using Preservica’s advanced preservation software, we will be able to store, manage and make available our digital archives in the most sustainable way possible for future generations.”
Mike Quinn, CEO of Preservica, added: “The West-Brabants Archief is an amazing resource for the people in the southwest of the Netherlands, and we’re proud to be supporting them in their mission to safeguard and make public records easily accessible to everyone. We also welcome them to the growing community of government institutions in the Netherlands and world-wide using Preservica to protect unique digital records and improve citizen services.”
