Preservica supports State Electronic Records Initiative (SERI) joint program

Preservica and Council of State Archivists collaborate on program of digital preservation training, tools and information to help state archives improve preservation and access to government records

Washington DC, US and Oxford, UK | Tuesday July 08 2014 | Preservica, part of the Tessella group, and a world leader in digital preservation technology, research and consulting, is pleased to announce its support for the Council of State Archivists’ (CoSA) 2014 State Electronic Records Initiative (SERI). Preservica’s support will enable SERI to enhance its “Best Practices and Tools” web portal, as well as deliver a joint program of digital preservation education, training, information and other initiatives to help state archives improve the way they preserve and provide access to government records.

CoSA and Preservica will also be hosting a Digital Preservation Open Forum for State Archives and Libraries (Wednesday 13 Aug 5:15pm-6:30pm) at Archives*Records 2014 in Washington DC for CoSA members to learn more about the latest SERI initiatives, share and discuss their needs and priorities for digital preservation training, tools, information, standards, best practice and specific functions for the coming year, and meet state archives and libraries using Preservica.

About CoSA and SERI

The Council of State Archivists (CoSA) is a national organization comprising of the individuals who serve as directors of the principal archival agencies in each state and territorial government. These individuals also serve as State Historical Records Coordinators who chair their respective State Historical Records Advisory Boards (SHRABs), a program established by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.

Working collectively through their membership in CoSA, the state archivists encourage cooperation among the states and SHRABs on matters of mutual interest, define and communicate archival and records concerns at a national level, and work with the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), National Archives (NARA), and other national organizations to ensure that the nation's documentary heritage is preserved and accessible.

In July 2011, the Council of State Archivists launched an initiative focused on improving efforts to manage, preserve, and provide access to state government electronic records nationwide. The initiative is managed by the State Electronic Records Initiative (SERI) committee.
