Preservica v5.7 delivers a rich set of new digital preservation and access features that help cultural heritage institutions create living and accessible digital archives and collections

Boston, MA US and Oxford, UK | Oct 2016 | Preservica, a world leader in digital preservation, has announced the latest version (v5.7) of its award-winning cloud-hosted and on premise Digital Preservation and Access solution.

The new release builds on Preservica’s on-going product roadmap of enabling libraries, archives and museums to create value with digital preservation by ensuring digital assets are safely stored, can be flexibly re-arranged, are easily migrated to newer file formats overtime (post-ingest), and can be searched, browsed and viewed by public, research or internal users through a fully customizable access portal – all via a single integrated preservation and access system.

Preservica v5.7 provides new levels of flexibility and productivity for archivists, librarians and collection managers, the main features include:

Ingest of ISO Disk Images
Automatic bulk ingest, unpack, characterization, safe storage and preservation of files and metadata held on ISO Disk Images (like CD-ROMs and Hard disks), Apple Disk Copy Images and Hierarchical File System Images

Digitized Content Ingest
Bulk ingest, unpack, characterization, safe storage and preservation of the output from a digitization process, automatically combining multiple file outputs (e.g. high-resolution TIFF and low-resolution JPEG) into a single aligned record

Digital Preservation Update Framework
A new framework that enables Preservica’s file format registry to be regularly updated with format and migration tool information from trusted sources such as DROID signatures published by the UK National Archives

Universal Access – Advanced Filtered Search
Addition of advanced filtered search, such as date range searches, to Preservica’s Universal Access portal, building on existing browse and faceted search capabilities

Cloud Bulk Upload Service – built around AWS Snowball
Secure bulk upload of large digital collections (10TB+) into the safety of Preservica Cloud Edition. This new service is built around the AWS Import/Export Snowball appliance (that supports the upload of up to 80TB at a time) and includes optimized Preservica ingest workflows for faster transfer

Microsoft Azure Storage Adapter
Extends Preservica’s Intelligent Storage Framework with support for Microsoft Azure blob and cool blob storage - giving Enterprise Edition users greater storage choice, and the flexibility to create highly durable multi-provider hybrid (on premise and cloud) storage environments

Authentication using SAML
Enterprise and Standard Edition users can now be authenticated over the internet using the standard and widely used SAML protocol (e.g. as supported by Microsoft Azure Active Directory)

Software Development Kit (SDK)
New SDK documentation for customer and partner developers - providing in-depth descriptions of Preservica’s open APIs for workflow customization and integration with catalogs, databases and other systems

Jon Tilbury, CEO Preservica adds “A lot of the new features in v5.7 are down to the valued input of the growing Preservica user community who work closely with us to help shape the future of digital preservation and access. We are also excited to have already started work on v5.8 that will further extend and enhance Preservica’s core digital preservation and access features. This all builds on our vision of enabling cultural heritage institutions to unlock the value of their digital content by creating living and accessible digital archives and collections”.

Alison Basset, Archives & Research Center Manager at The Trustees, adds “The v5.7 release demonstrates how Preservica and the user community work together to meet the needs of cultural heritage institutions. Using Preservica will enable us to not only ensure our unique digital assets are safely stored and preserved for the future, but also available to new audiences using the online access portal – all of which creates incredible value for our institution”

Preservica v5.7 is already released to Cloud Edition users and will be available for Enterprise Edition users from November 23 2016.
