Dates and registration now open for Practical Digital Preservation (PDP) 2015/16 workshops and webinars available free of charge to ARA and IRMS members.

Washington DC, US and Oxford, UK | Tuesday 13 Oct 2015 | Preservica, a world leader in digital preservation, is pleased to announce dates and booking details for the joint Preservica, Archives and Records Association (ARA) (UK & Ireland) and Information and Records Management Society (IRMS) programme of Practical Digital Preservation (PDP) workshops and webinars 2015/16.

Free to ARA and IRMS members, PDP 2015/16 builds on the highly rated joint Preservica and ARA PDP 2015 programme for archivists adding new content and examples that focus on hot-topic challenges relevant to records managers. These include email preservation, legal admissibility (BS 1008), the preservation of long-term non-permanent records, web archiving and building digital preservation into the information governance life-cycle. The overall aim is to enable archivist and records managers to collaborate more closely, and move beyond the theory of digital preservation to gain the practical skills necessary to preserve and provide access to long-term and permanent digital content and records.

John Chambers, CEO of ARA said:

“Having the knowledge and experience of how to manage, preserve and provide proper access to an increasing volume of digital content is a vital skill for both archivists and records managers. We are therefore delighted to be joining forces with IRMS and Preservica to deliver this new programme of Practical Digital Preservation training that we hope will foster best-practice and closer collaboration in the management of digital content and records”

Meic Pierce Owen, IRMS Chair added:

“As more of what we all do becomes digital, it is vital for records and information managers to understand the risks to long-term digital records, and be able to develop governance that ensures they remain safe and accessible over their full life-cycle. We are therefore delighted to be joining with Preservica and ARA to deliver this important new joint training initiative.”

Preservica Chief Executive Jon Tilbury commented:

“Preservica’s Digital Preservation and Access software is already in use at a number of ARA and IRMS member organisations, and we look forward to sharing practical experiences of implementing and managing digital preservation strategies for both long- term and permanent digital content”.
