PANB joins growing number of Canadian customers utilizing Preservica’s active digital preservation and access software hosted in AWS Canada region.

Oxford, UK and Boston, MA - June 1, 2018

The Provincial Archives of New Brunswick (PANB), Canada, has chosen Preservica’s active digital preservation and access platform hosted in AWS Canada region to provide secure access to its valuable long-term digital records and content.

The Provincial Archives of New Brunswick joins a large and growing community of government institutions across the globe that are using Preservica to preserve and protect government records for future generations. For New Brunswick it was also important that the Preservica platform and the AWS Canadian data center are certified ISO 27001-compliant and that all records remain within Canada.

The Provincial Archives carries the mandate to preserve and make available both government and donated private sector records that document the history of New Brunswick. These include records on births and deaths, provincial administration, democratic decision-making, architectural drawings, maps and plans, family photographs, genealogical information, diaries and video recordings. These collections make up the fabric of New Brunswick and preserve the cultural, economic, political and social history of the province for future generations.

William Vinh-doyle, Digital Preservation Archivist and Supervisor of the Centralized Digitization unit at the Archives, said, “Preservica was selected over other solutions after an extensive tendering process. It was important for us to find a platform that was proven and secure for government workloads and records. We needed a solution that combines digital preservation and public access, which enables us to meet the provincial mandate to preserve our unique digitized and born-digital records for future generations, as well as make them accessible to meet our regulatory obligations.”

Mike Quinn, Preservica CEO, commented, “Preservica is delighted to welcome the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick to our growing Canadian and global user community. Preservica is an AWS Government Competency partner supporting government organizations around the world, many of whom have stringent security and hosting needs. Digital transformation and the use of the cloud is a major focus for government organizations, and Preservica’s range of active digital preservation solutions hosted in the AWS Canada region provides a secure and cost-effective way for Canadian institutions to future-proof digital records using in-county hosting and storage.”

Preservica will be attending the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) Annual Conference, June 6-9 in Edmonton, learn more here and book a meeting with the team on site at the conference.

About Provincial Archives of New Brunswick

The Provincial Archives is legislated to assemble, and to make available for research, records bearing upon the history of New Brunswick. The Records Management Program ensures the regular transfer and archival retention of all non-current government records that have permanent legal and historical value. Following the Canadian tradition and practice, records are also acquired from the public.

Records from both sectors are important to protect the collective and individual rights of New Brunswickers and are essential for understanding and preserving the province’s heritage and culture.
